Tate Modern

November 19th, 2007

Owing to dismal weather and it nearly being dark by 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon, I went over to the Tate Modern to check out what was going on. I was a little reserved about going to a museum, as I haven’t been for years, but was completely bowled over and got really into the whole thing. The building itself is amazing and the exhibitions really interesting, so as a result I am now inspired to go and check out more of the museums in London.

Of course the whole experience was then soured a little by the London Transport system letting me down in the way of my train being cancelled on the way home, resulting in me having to sit in the cold for an hour at Liverpool Street station. Oh well, no surprises there then…

London: For better of worse?

November 5th, 2007

No I am not getting married, I am talking about my mood of late. It has been up and down ever since I started working in London again and I am not totally sure what the root cause is, probably a combination of social and environmental determinist factors, i.e. working and being in and around London too much is stressful and ultimately doesn’t provide me with fulfillment.

I was looking back at some pictures yesterday of my World Surf Tour in 2006 and remembering how chilled I felt and how happy was with life in general, it would be nice to get that vibe back. At the moment I’m finding myself getting increasingly despondent with working here and socialising, I find I am getting more aggressive towards strangers, and a little more inward looking as I try to drown out the daily sh*t (he whole rat race to get on the property ladder, the insane cost of living this country has brought on itself), it’s all bullsh*t.

What’s the next step, not sure yet, been trying to figure that one out for some time now, maybe another WST or permanent emigration to somewhere less sh*te, we’ll see… A week in Fuerte’ surfing will sort me out a bit, but I know I’ll slip back into the rut sooner or later on my return to the greyness…

Just a few pics of some of the lovely sunsets we’ve been having lately. The view from the office really is fantastic. For more pics, check out Flickr

Rosana

November 1st, 2007

So it’s official (well it’s been official for a while) that I have a new girlfriend. I met a nice girl called Rosana a few months back. Ironically she is Brazilian (yep still can’t find a decent English girl – haha), and after travelling all that way to Rio and Salvador earlier this year, I actually met a Brazilian who works 2 minutes from my office, world works in strange ways.

Anyway all is going and I am getting a chance to practice my Portuguese quite a bit (I guess that “Teach yourself Portuguese”) book came in handy after all. We will see what happens, early days, but all good, just in time for Christmas, haha!

Stop the clocks

October 28th, 2007

The clocks went back last night, and now it is dark at 5pm, now in my books that sucks, and it is only gonna get worse as we get into winter. I can’t wait to get to the beaches of Cotillo and hopefully get some great waves next week, escape the grime and grind of London and trade it all in for a week to chill, eat well and hang out with my mates Simon and Gustavo and hopefully also catch up with my buddies from Extreme!

Cold

October 28th, 2007

So I have had this cold/flu thing for about 2 weeks now, and it is really starting to get on my tits. I couldn’t go surfing this weekend, as I was too ill coughing up all manner of junk. Guess I will have to finally submit and get my butt down to the docs tomorrow morning. Hopefully it will clear before I head off to Fuerte next week, fingers crossed!

Comments are off

October 28th, 2007

Due to some losers who are duplicating the content on my site without asking me first, I have turned comments off, so if you really have anything worthwhile saying about the sh*t I write here then mail me.

Weekend

October 22nd, 2007

I had a great time crusing around the streets of Brick Lane, Sptialfields and the East End yesterday. I took a load of pics which you can check out on my flickr account.

The weekend

September 30th, 2007

So this weekend, Beej, Sulli and I hit up East Runton for what turned out to be some classic wind-blown, out of control 6ft slop. The wind was super onshore, but we managed to get a few decent rides and had a good laugh.

After a few beers in the pub at West Runton, we then went to the pier in Cromer and got stuck into some classic fish and chips. All in all a good trip to the coast, apart from the poor surf. We will hopefully be planning another trip to a better spot down in The Gower over the next few weeks.

After our little adventure we drove back to Elsenham and relaxed for a bit, watched the ruggers, before heading back to London for an evening of beers and a little PlayStation2. I met up with my mate Simon from work in the Keston Lodge and had a few more drinks, met some new folks and had a good laugh which resulted in getting to bed at 5am. Must admit I did feel a little worse for wear today.

Anyway back to work tomorrow, another week to look forward to. Simon, Gustavo and I are going to book a surf trip up to Fuerteventura for the end of the month, which will be something exciting to look forward to.

TBC…

Friday night on Upper Street

July 15th, 2007

Mmm… another one to add to the collection it would seem. Me, Beej, Tom, Mark, Steve, Richie and Lionel all met up for the first time in at least a year on Friday night and unleashed a huge can of whoop-ass on Upper Street.

It was such a laugh hanging out with the boys, having a few drinks, well actually not a few, a tonne of drinks (far too much judging by my hangover the next day). We started off in Cuba Libre and had frozen margaritas and moijitos and after a few hours of talking shit moved swiftly up the road to the Keston Lodge for a few more beers etc. It was great to see Tom and Beej finally talking to each other after such a long time, and I remember telling them both on numerous occasions how beautiful I thought it all was, funny, that would be the drink talking I guess.

I remember getting the dance vibe on when the Rolling Stones came on the sound system and the obligatory Jagger Swagger and foot stomping came out, which was all a good laugh…

Here are a few pics from the evening:
