An age of innocence…

January 10th, 2006

Well I think this one will prove to be pretty random, but hey, that’s me in a nutshell!

I was watching Forrest Gump last night (love that film). Every time I watch it, it’s like I go into a nostalgic trance. Although I wasn’t around in the 60’s, somehow watching a flim like Gump just takes you back to a time when life was supposedly more innocent, simple and people had more time for each other.

I always wondered what life would be like growing up in the American deep south, where the vistas go on forever, the summers endless and the whole small town America thing.

Keeping with that vibe, I got out the old Big Chill soundtrack last night to get involved with a little Motown! You can’t beat the old skool tunes: Aretha, Marvin, Temptations, Miracles, Three Dog Night, Procol Harem etc.

Anyway back to reality, and back to work I guess… the dream lives on, and it’s now less than 3 weeks until the tour starts!

Come on!

3 weeks and counting

January 9th, 2006

3 weeks today and I will be getting ready to step on a plane to begin my World Surf Tour, I am getting very excited about it, although trying to stay focused as I have 3 more web sites to complete in little over 2 weeks.

Training is going well and I have managed 7 days in a row down the gym, the idea is to get as fit as possible for surfing, you can never do too much prep!

Bali

January 5th, 2006

As I sit in my office, sipping on a cup of tea and munching on a toasted hot cross bun, I just noticed it has started to sleet outside. What a contrast it will be when I jump on that plane in 25 days.

Sulli and I are booking up our Bali leg of my World Surf Tour this week. We have decided on the Melasti Beach Resort in Legian, very close to some of Bali’s top-notch surf breaks.

It’s funny a few weeks ago I was convinced the Nagigia Island (Fiji) leg of the tour was gonna be the pinnacle, but Bali now looks like a hot contender. In all honesty, I think every second of this tour will be absolute quality.

Apart from the guys (Slater, Machado, Dorian, Gerlach, the Malloys, Johnson) in the movies, I don’ t know anyone who is gonna live the dream! Am feeling lucky today, all good!

Who knows, if it the sleet turns to snow, maybe we’ll get enough for me to break out the 1080’s and ride a little swtich before I head off!

Ok back to work!
:)

Thought of the day…

January 4th, 2006

This one goes out to Mr. Wood!

Don’t eat anchovy flavoured pizza from an old box, although it may seem tasty at the time, you may find it gives you a nasty kick back and you end up feeling sick!

Get well soon Sloppy!

Frontage…

January 3rd, 2006

An old proverb from times past says the swanky products at the front of the shop window catch the eye and get the most looks. The not so shiny stuff at the back of the window gets a few look ins, and the stuff in the warehouse gets f*ck all…

You do the math and work it out…!

World Surf Tour 2006

January 2nd, 2006

Happy New Year to all the good people out there!

It’s 4 weeks today until I head off on my World Surf Tour and to say that I am stoked is the understatement of the century. For those of you who don’t know already, I am taking off on the 30th Jan’ and heading off around the world for my own Endless Summer.

My route will first take me to Cape Town, South Africa where I’ll be staying with Jens. I’m staying there for about a week, will see the sights, buy a new surfboard and check the beaches. My second stop in South Africa will be Durban, where I’m staying with family for 2 weeks.

I then hop over the Indian Ocean to Hong Kong and Bali, where Sulli and I will be getting involved in some serious reef break action!

I’ll then head over to Noosa, Australia for 2 weeks and hopefully get the chance to go down to Melbourne and check out Bells Beach.

It’s then off to Auckland, New Zeland where I’ll make my way down to Opunake and the Surf Highway 45 breaks and stay with more family/friends.

After sampling the best of NZ I’m off to Nagigia Island, Fiji where I will be surfing for a week.

I then head off to Los Angeles, where I am hoping to check out some of the world-famous beachs such as Malibu. It’s then on to San Francisco, Chicago, Washington DC and Miami. I’ll then hook up with my mate Dhruva, and we’ll take a road trip up the east coast of the USA.

I will be away for 3.5 months, or 16.5 weeks, depending if your a months or weeks person. So that’s the tour in a nutshell. I’ll be updating the site as I go around the world, as well as shooting a load of movie footage for the forthcoming “Another toe in the surf”. If you want to keep updated on what’s going on, then just bookmark this page and come and visit when you have time.

Cheers
